Sadly, refugees along the route are given little or no opportunities to avail themselves of the hygiene facilities we all take for granted. There are bathrooms with ice-cold water, but without toilet tissue or paper towels. And at the camps where I have been, there are no showers or access to facilities to clean one’s feet, change babies properly, etc.
This is why, when giving refugees new shoes and socks, we also clean the children’s feet with wet wipes, and allow the adults to clean their feet with wet wipes, before putting their new socks on. It makes a huge difference. In this sea of inhumanity, every detail counts.
All donations received before Feb 20 will be matched by an anonymous donor.
